On November 1, 2002, Hernando County Property Appraisers Office unveiled their new record search program that enables users to search assessment data with parcel tax maps.
A few of the special features have the ability to search sales by price, date and use code, e.g. residential, vacant land, stores, etc. The ability to print a map with summarized ownership and assessment information and the ability to overlay aerial photography on the maps as well as many other features.
After looking at the new site, I started to use the mapping portion of this system on emergency calls. Especially on the East Side of the county, where in some cases there are no street signs or addresses posted on the property. The system displays a parcel map of the location you are looking for with street names and with intersecting streets. This enables us to advice the responding units that the address is located north of X street and south Y street, and the 4th property on the east side north of 'X' street. By giving this information to our units, it minimizes the response time. This system also has the ability to overlay aerial on the map. This is a very useful tool during brush fires. We can oversee the area affected by fire and determine if any other structures or additional fuel for the fire or threatening any other structures that the ground crew is unable to see from the street.
